Casa Ambiente “space of freedom”
 

We all have favorite places and favorite spots. For me, an island is associated with a special feeling, a feeling and expression of freedom.

I have "landed" on La Gomera, in Valle Gran Rey, for 35 years. In recent years I have spent the winter there and I appreciate the fantastic year-round climate, the nature, the different way of life. La Gomera is my favorite island, Valle Gran Rey my favorite place. I feel there is much less economization there and in many shops and restaurants there is much less focus on profit. People take more time and stay longer.

The geographical location of the island and of Valle Gran Rey with the mountains behind it, far away from the centres of Europe with their pulsating and noisy cities, is mentally a great prerequisite for practicing “the freedom of thought”, as Hannah Arendt said.

​

My wish is that "Casa Ambiente" becomes a place for people who have remained tolerant, empathetic and simply human, or who are looking for ways to reinforce this through interaction with other people. The need to think about this calmly and to examine my own actions is obvious in view of global developments. I would like to build empathetic thought relationships through topics such as philosophy, art, nature, politics, sport and chess. Perhaps I will even be able to start and maintain international friendships.

 

One concrete idea is the time exchange Kairos La Gomera, where money plays no or only a minor role, and personal conversations and people's skills are the focus. Primarily started by German-speaking "Gomerians", but with international aspirations and, above all, integration into the society of Valle Gran Rey.
